Iran Claims US-Israeli Plot Behind Syrian Rebel Attacks: A Response to Regional Turmoil

Iran Claims US-Israeli Plot Behind Syrian Rebel Attacks: A Response to Regional Turmoil

December 1, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor World

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, stated that recent rebel attacks in Syria are part of a US-Israeli plan to create instability in the region. He communicated this during a phone call with Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.

The Iranian foreign ministry described the attacks as a “sinister phenomenon of terrorism.” Araqchi pointed out that movements of terrorist groups in Syria align with the destabilization efforts by what he called the “Zionist regime” and the United States.

Both Araqchi and Lavrov expressed support for Syria amidst the rebel attacks. They emphasized the importance of cooperation among Iran, Russia, and Syria. They affirmed their commitment to Syria’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity against terrorist groups.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the two ministers voiced deep concern over the rising tensions in Syria caused by the offensive from armed groups in the Aleppo and Idlib provinces. Lavrov also discussed the situation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan earlier that day.
