Tensions flared Friday as Iran and teh united States engaged in a war of words, even as discussions for a potential nuclear deal loomed. The exchange follows a recently brokered cease-fire.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyeb Abbas Araghchi asserted that Israel was forced to seek assistance to avoid Iranian missiles. Araghchi posted on X, four days after President Donald Trump announced the cease-fire. The truce has remained in effect.
NATO Secretary-General mark Rutte previously characterized Trump as “Daddy” for his strong stance toward both Iran and Israel, which Trump likened to “two kids in a schoolyard.” The White House embraced the “Daddy” moniker, even releasing a video set to Usher’s “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s home).”
Araghchi warned against threats and insults, stating that Iran would unveil its “Real Capabilities” if provoked. He also urged Trump to show respect toward Iran’s Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei.
Trump responded on truth Social, questioning Khamenei’s claim of victory over Israel and reminding him that, as a man of faith, he “is not supposed to lie.” Trump further stated he saved Khamenei from “UGLY AND IGNOMINOUS DEATH,” though he advised Israel against assassinating the leader.
Trump has said U.S.and Iranian officials will meet next week to discuss a potential nuclear deal, though he downplayed the necessity of an accord. He maintained that U.S. strikes had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacities, despite skepticism.
The president also stated he would “absolutely” consider bombing Iran again if it continues its pursuit of a nuclear weapon. Satellite imagery from Friday indicated renewed activity at Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, a site deeply embedded within a mountain for protection.
Last weekend, seven B-2 jets struck Iran with seven bombs after a 17-hour flight from Missouri. However,bunker-buster bombs were not used on one of Iran’s largest nuclear facilities due to its depth, according to CNN sources.
The U.S. Senate on Friday rejected a resolution aimed at limiting Trump’s ability to take military action against Iran without congressional approval. The vote was 53-47.
What’s next
U.S. and Iranian officials are scheduled to meet next week to discuss a possible nuclear agreement, setting the stage for further negotiations amid ongoing tensions and rhetoric.
