Four people have been confirmed dead in Haifa, Israel, following a series of Iranian ballistic missile strikes that hit residential areas on April 5 and April 6, 2026.
The casualties resulted from a strike on a residential building on April 5, which led to an extensive rescue operation that continued into Monday, April 6. While initial reports on April 6 indicated two deaths and two people missing, subsequent updates confirmed that a fourth victim was recovered after hours of search efforts.
Details of the Haifa Strikes
Israel Police Commissioner Danny Levy stated that emergency services focused their efforts on four family members believed to be at the site of the residential building strike. Levy noted that the warhead of the ballistic missile may not have exploded upon impact, leading authorities to evacuate several surrounding buildings as a precaution against a delayed explosion.
Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency medical service, reported that several people were injured in the Haifa region. Paramedics provided treatment and evacuated four patients to Rambam Hospital who showed signs of smoke inhalation. Other wounded individuals included an elderly man in serious condition and three others, including a baby, who sustained minor injuries.
Reports from Al Jazeera indicated that more than 10 sites in Haifa were hit during the latest round of Iranian strikes. The Times of Israel reported damage in central Israel attributed to an apparent cluster munition impact. Footage from the scene showed a car fire sparked by one suspected bomb impact and another vehicle being flipped over.
Ongoing Operations and Impact
On April 6, emergency services including Magen David Adom and Fire and Rescue teams confirmed at least two impact sites across residential neighborhoods in Haifa. Video footage released by responders showed significant damage to buildings and active fires.
Authorities have stated it remains unclear whether the destruction in these areas was caused by direct missile strikes or by debris from intercepted projectiles. Shrapnel from an intercepted Iranian ballistic missile was reported to have hit at least 15 sites across central Israel.
The escalation follows a warning from Iran stating it would respond in kind
to any attacks from the United States.
