Iran-Israel Ceasefire Tested by Alleged Violations
Updated June 25,2025
A ceasefire between Iran and Israel, negotiated after a limited Iranian missile strike on the U.S.Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, is already showing signs of strain. The details of the agreement remain unclear, but it initially sparked cautious optimism across the Middle East.
Almost immediately after the truce was to take effect, Israel accused Iran of violating it by firing ballistic missiles, which Israel claimed to have intercepted. Israel stated it would respond, further escalating tensions.
Abdolrahim Mousavi,Iran’s chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, denied any launches after the ceasefire began, according to Iranian official media. However, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later stated that 14 missiles were fired “in the last minutes” before the ceasefire.
President Trump, visibly angry, criticized both countries for the violations. “These guys gotta calm down,” he said, later urging Israel on social media to “BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!”
Israeli officials reported that warplanes conducted a small strike against an Iranian radar north of Tehran around the time of Trump’s comments. A statement from the prime minister’s office indicated that Israel refrained from further attacks following a conversation between Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu.
The governmental body in charge of military affairs, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, struck a triumphant tone, stating that Iran’s victory “forced the enemy to regret and accept defeat and unilaterally halt its attack.” The council added that Iranian forces would remain “with their hands on the trigger.”
According to iran’s Health Ministry, the conflict has resulted in 28 deaths and over 1,000 injuries in Israel, while Israeli actions have killed 610 and wounded 4,746 in Iran since the war began.
The ceasefire came as a surprise to many. Hours before Trump’s announcement, Iran launched missiles at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, a major U.S. military installation. Despite initial fears of escalation, the attack appeared to be a pre-choreographed gesture. Trump stated that Iran had warned the U.S. of the attack in advance.
Qatar condemned the attack as a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty and airspace but, in coordination with Trump and Vice President JD Vance, worked to end the hostilities, according to an official who requested anonymity.
In Tehran, there was a sense of tentative joy mixed with feelings of betrayal by the international community.
Venus Shahri, a teacher from Tehran, said, “Iran was left with very few options.”
Jaber Khadiri, 55, expressed disappointment with Iran’s army and advocated for nuclear weapons, stating, “We shouldn’t have accepted the ceasefire offer at all. We must have nuclear weapons. There’s no other choice.”
What’s next
The coming days will reveal whether the ceasefire can hold, or if further escalation between Iran and Israel is certain. The role of international mediators will be critical in maintaining stability in the region.
