Tehran – Iran’s Foreign ministry cast serious doubt on the future role of nuclear negotiations with the United States following Israeli strikes within the country. State television reported the remarks Saturday.
Esmail Baghaei,a spokesman for the ministry, said the Israeli action had rendered further discussions “meaningless.” The two nations had planned to meet Sunday in Oman.

Baghaei stated that the U.S. actions had undermined the purpose of the talks. He added that Israel’s strikes constituted a “criminal act” that crossed all of Iran’s red lines.
“The U.S. did a job that made the talks become meaningless,” Baghaei said.
Despite the strong words, Baghaei stopped short of announcing a cancellation. The Mizan news agency quoted him saying the final decision regarding Sunday’s talks remained unclear.
What’s next
The international community awaits further statements from Iranian officials to determine weather the planned discussions in Oman will proceed, and what role diplomacy will play in de-escalating tensions.
