Iran Reaches Out: A New Era of Diplomacy with Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan on the Horizon
Iranian President Emphasizes Efforts to Improve Relations with Regional Countries
Iranian President Massoud Pezheshkian highlighted his efforts to strengthen ties with Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan during his first press conference in Tehran since taking office in July.
Pezheshkian expressed his willingness to exchange visits with Saudi Arabia, stating, “We must exchange visits with Saudi Arabia, and I welcome every relationship.” He emphasized the importance of resolving differences between Muslim countries to unite against common enemies.
Regional Cooperation and Diplomacy
The Iranian president praised China’s role in mediating between Iran and Saudi Arabia, promoting regional cooperation, and strengthening ties with neighboring countries. He described Iran’s relationship with China as “strategic” and highlighted the significance of the 25-year joint agreement between the two nations.
Pezheshkian also emphasized the importance of Iran’s relationships with Russia and the BRICS countries, stating that these partnerships have helped the country navigate tough sanctions.
Denial of Missile Allegations
Pezheshkian categorically denied allegations that Iran has supplied Yemen with missiles aimed at Israel. He stated that while Iran stands in solidarity with the Yemeni people, it has not provided them with hypersonic missiles.
However, Pezheshkian acknowledged that Iran possesses hypersonic weapons and satellites, emphasizing that the country’s allies in the region have the necessary technology to develop advanced missiles.
Confronting Israel and Human Rights Concerns
The Iranian president stressed the need to confront Israel, citing human rights concerns and the killing of innocent people. He warned that international law must be upheld to prevent Israel from committing further atrocities.
Pezheshkian also expressed his country’s willingness to respond to Israeli aggression, stating that Iran reserves the right to react and will respond to the “Zionist entity” at the appropriate time.
Nuclear Deal and Relations with the United States
Pezheshkian emphasized that Iran does not seek to develop nuclear weapons but is facing threats from the United States and European countries. He stated that American officials must comply with the terms of the nuclear deal before any dialogue can take place.
The Iranian president also emphasized that Iran will not negotiate directly with the United States unless it demonstrates a non-hostile attitude towards Tehran.
Iran-Turkey Relations
Pezheshkian described Turkey as a “brotherly, friendly, and neighboring country” and emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties between the two nations. He stated that he will visit Turkey and invite Turkish officials to visit Iran.
