Iranian official Mohammad Baghaei stated that no ruler has the right to use the Arabic language as a justification for representing the “Muhammadan Message,” according to reports from CNN Arabic and Kurdistan24. The statement serves as a direct response to comments made by the King of Bahrain regarding the leadership of the Islamic faith.

Iran Rejects Arabic Language as Basis for Religious Representation

The tension between Tehran and Manama escalated following remarks by the King of Bahrain. Mohammad Baghaei responded by asserting that speaking Arabic does not grant an individual or a ruler the inherent right to represent the message of the Prophet Muhammad, as reported by Kurdistan24.

Baghaei further argued that those who claim to speak for the “Muhammadan Message” should instead examine the behavior and actions of their own governments, according to Al-Alam channel. This critique links the claim of religious representation to the political conduct of the state in question.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Stance on Regional Relations

While engaging in this rhetorical dispute, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has simultaneously emphasized its commitment to maintaining friendly ties with neighboring countries, according to Alsumaria. Tehran stated its intent to preserve “good neighborly” relations despite the ongoing diplomatic friction.

However, the Iranian Foreign Ministry used the occasion to criticize other Muslim nations for their continued support of the United States, according to Al-Ma’louma.

Diplomatic and Religious Friction in the Gulf

The dispute centers on the intersection of linguistic identity and religious authority.
