The Aedes species, including Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, are known to transmit diseases like chikungunya, dengue fever, yellow fever, and Zika. These mosquitoes are day-biting insects, increasing the risk of transmission during daylight hours.
culex mosquitoes, conversely, are the primary vectors for West Nile virus. These mosquitoes become infected by feeding on infected birds, which act as “amplifier hosts,” developing high levels of the virus in their bloodstream.
