Trump Disputes Intel, Warns Iran on Nuclear Ambitions
Updated June 21, 2025
Former President Donald Trump has publicly contradicted his own Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities. This comes amid heightened tensions as Israel continues its military actions against Iranian targets.
Gabbard adjusted her stance after Trump’s rebuke, stating on X that U.S. intelligence indicates Iran is capable of producing a nuclear weapon within weeks or months if it chooses to proceed with final assembly. She added that Trump has made it clear that this cannot happen, a sentiment she shares.
Trump, speaking in New Jersey, dismissed Gabbard’s earlier testimony from March, where she stated that the intelligence community assessed Iran was not actively building a nuclear weapon. When informed that Gabbard made the initial assessment, Trump simply stated, “She’s wrong.”
Gabbard responded on X, accusing the media of intentionally misrepresenting her testimony to create division. She included a video clip where she acknowledged Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles were at unprecedented levels for a non-nuclear state and posed a wide range of threats to the U.S.and Israel.
tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, faced public disagreement from the former president regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Trump emphasized that Iran has a limited timeframe to abandon its nuclear ambitions to avoid potential U.S.airstrikes. He stated that Iran has already gathered a “tremendous amount of material” and could develop a nuclear weapon within weeks or months, a scenario he vowed to prevent.
Gabbard had previously stated that iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had suspended a nuclear weapons program in 2003.
Trump said, “It is a tremendous amount of material and I think within a matter of weeks or certainly within a matter of months they will be able to have a nuclear weapon and we can’t let that happen.”
What’s next
The White House indicated that Trump would decide within two weeks whether to direct the U.S. military to intervene.
