Fear Permeates as Iranian Military Orders Disable Communication Equipment and Launches Large-Scale Bombing Campaign in Lebanon

Iran’s Response to the Beeping and Walkie-Talkie Explosions in Lebanon

Reuters reported that two senior Iranian officials revealed that a series of beeping and walkie-talkie explosions in Lebanon last week caused more than 3,000 casualties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC has ordered a ban on all types of communications equipment and launched a large-scale review of equipment and personnel.

A security official said the IRGC is conducting a large-scale operation to inspect all devices, not just communication equipment. He said most of those devices were manufactured in Iran or imported from China and Russia.

The official added that Iran is concerned about the infiltration of Israeli agents, including those working for Israel, and has begun conducting identity checks on mid- and high-level Iranians in the IRGC, as well as investigating their bank accounts in Iran and abroad, as well as their and their family’s travels.

Additionally, the security official declined to say how the 190,000-person IRGC now communicates, saying only that it currently uses an end-to-end encrypted communications system.

According to the official, Iran’s governing authorities are generally concerned about this issue. IRGC officials have contacted Hezbollah to request a technical assessment, and Iranian experts have sent several cases of explosive devices to Tehran for examination.

Security officials also said Iran is increasing the security of its nuclear and missile facilities, particularly underground facilities.
