Iran has warned of “prolonged and painful blows” against U.S. Positions in response to any resumption of strikes by Washington, following recent tensions sparked by U.S. Actions targeting Iranian nuclear sites and subsequent retaliatory measures by Tehran. This warning comes amid escalating rhetoric and a heightened state of alert in the region.

The warning was issued as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi delivered blistering remarks on Sunday, responding to overnight U.S. Strikes overseen by President Donald Trump, which targeted three key Iranian nuclear sites. Araghchi stated that any further aggression would result in “everlasting,” “dangerous,” and “far-reaching” consequences, describing the U.S. Actions as an “egregious act of aggression and heinous crime.”

“The warmongering and lawless Administration in Washington is solely and fully responsible for the dangerous consequences and far-reaching implications of its act of aggression,”

Abbas Araghchi

Araghchi made his statement at the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul and also through a series of online posts. He accused the U.S. Of acting “in collusion with the genocidal Israeli regime,” and characterized American foreign policy as deeply hostile towards Iran.

Iran has also requested an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council, citing a “violation of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231.” Araghchi warned that silence on the matter would only worsen the situation, stating, “Silence in the face of such blatant aggression would plunge the world into an unprecedented level of danger and chaos.”

The recent escalation follows U.S. Strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, prompting a response from Tehran. According to reports, Iran launched missiles against the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday, though U.S. And Qatari officials stated the missiles were intercepted and no injuries occurred.

Middle East security expert Burcu Ozcelik at the UK’s Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) noted that American military installations in the Gulf are more vulnerable to Iranian attacks due to the proximity and Iran’s stockpile of short-range ballistic missiles. “Unlike Iran’s targeting of Israel, which is far more difficult geographically due to the distance, Iran’s stockpile or arsenal of short-range ballistic missiles makes American military installations in the Gulf more vulnerable. They’re softer targets in that sense,” Ozcelik stated.

The U.S. Maintains a significant military presence in the Middle East, operating eight permanent bases in eight countries – Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, and Iraq – with nearly a dozen additional facilities across the region. Al Udeid in Qatar hosts up to 10,000 service personnel, while Naval Support Activity Bahrain is home to approximately 9,000 troops. An estimated 40,000 to 50,000 U.S. Service members are stationed throughout the region.

In addition to potential attacks on U.S. Air bases, Iran could also target U.S. Military assets across the Middle East, close the Strait of Hormuz – a critical waterway for global oil transport – or engage in asymmetric warfare, including cyber and terror attacks.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has also condemned the Trump-ordered strikes, referring to the U.S. As the “primary instigator” of the escalating tensions. The situation remains highly volatile, with the potential for further escalation if a diplomatic resolution is not reached.
