Iranian missile attacks targeted multiple regions in northern and central Israel on April 5, 2026, resulting in casualties and significant infrastructure damage, including strikes near Haifa.
In northern Israel, ten people were wounded during a missile barrage. According to Magen David Adom (MDA), the injuries occurred when a missile struck a building and damaged a car. MDA officials stated that the injuries were caused by the shockwave of the impact rather than by shrapnel or breaking glass. Six of the wounded individuals were evacuated to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya.
Impact on Haifa’s Industrial Infrastructure
The city of Haifa, a major port and industrial hub, experienced multiple impacts and localized damage. A fresh wave of Iranian missile and drone attacks targeted the region, with reports of debris falling across seven different locations in and around the city.
Israel’s largest oil hub in Haifa suffered extensive damage during the attacks. The Bazan oil refinery reported that pipelines and transmission lines connecting facilities within the large complex were struck. In a filing to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, the company stated that while refining facilities continued to operate, other facilities within the complex were shut down. Bazan indicated it is currently examining the financial consequences and the operational impact of the strike.
Following the announcement of the damage, Bazan shares decreased by 2.8 percent on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Social media footage from the site showed two large fires burning at the industrial complex.
Air Defense and Interceptions
Israel’s multi-layered air defense network, utilizing the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow systems, intercepted a significant number of the incoming threats. However, defense-monitoring analyses indicate that some interceptions occurred at low altitudes.

This low-altitude interception resulted in missile fragments and munition components falling into populated and industrial areas instead of open zones or the sea. Authorities warned residents to avoid contact with this debris, as it may contain hazardous materials.
Broader Regional Escalation
The April 5 attacks are part of an ongoing escalation between Iran and Israel. These latest strikes follow previous volleys of ballistic missiles fired by Tehran in response to Israeli military actions targeting Iran’s nuclear program.
Other reported incidents during this period of escalation include:
- Damage to the campus of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, where ballistic missile damage was recorded.
- Reports of cluster munitions falling near the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
- A missile strike in southern Israel that landed in an open area.
Emergency services were deployed across the affected northern and central regions to secure sites and assess structural damage. Officials attributed the limited number of serious casualties to the effectiveness of early-warning sirens and the adherence of residents to shelter protocols.
