Iraqi Border Forces Bolster Security Amid Syrian Unrest
Al-Qaim, Iraq – As news of upheaval in Syria reaches the international community, Iraqi border forces are taking no chances. Commander Khairallah Issa of the Iraqi Border Force assured the nation that the syrian border is “entirely secure.”
Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Issa detailed the extensive security measures in place. “We have four barriers: trenches,earthen mounds,a hedgehog wire barrier,and a cement wall,3 meters high,” he explained.
The al-Qaim border crossing,a key entry point between the two countries,is currently closed. Issa emphasized the robust military presence, stating that “the forces manning the crossing consist of 4 brigades and 6 reserve regiments, deployed along the border and a reserve infantry regiment, with the presence of the Popular Mobilization Force behind.”
He stressed the impenetrability of the border, declaring, “The border cannot be breached by any means, and the crossing is closed.”
Heightened Vigilance
in light of the rapidly evolving situation in Syria, Iraqi forces are on high alert. Issa confirmed that “we are fully prepared and alert for any eventuality, and all borders are monitored by cameras, the number of which has reached 105.”
He dismissed the need for reinforcements, stating confidently, “We do not need to reinforce the forces present at the Al-Qaim border crossing. The weapons are sufficient and there will be no violations.”
INA reported that the Iraqi side has implemented additional security fortifications along the border strip, including the deployment of thermal cameras to enhance surveillance.
