Ireland 13-26 New Zealand: Beauden Barrett ‘gutted’ for Tadhg Beirne after controversial red card
Beauden Barrett Open to Playing in Ireland, despite Family Considerations
All Blacks star Beauden Barrett has expressed openness to the possibility of playing professional rugby in Ireland, acknowledging frequent inquiries from fans, particularly those supporting Leinster and Munster. The 34-year-old made the comments following a recent match, noting the strong interest from Irish supporters while attending a sponsor’s event in Chicago.
Barrett, currently playing for the Blues in New Zealand, stated that approximately 90% of the fans who approached him at the event were irish and consistently asked about the prospect of him joining a team in Ireland. He described the idea as “very tempting” due to his fondness for the country and previous time spent there.
Team response and Recent Performance
Barrett also reflected on a recent team performance, expressing pride in their response to challenges. He noted that he could have been discouraged by events unfolding around him, specifically referencing his “bros” (likely teammates) but instead focused on maintaining team cohesion.
“I was super proud and happy with how we responded. I could have let that rattle me, seeing my two bros go off,” Barrett saeid. “I was impressed with how we stayed connected and stayed aligned on what we wanted to achieve, and we came away with the right result.”
Family Considerations and Future Prospects
Despite his enthusiasm, barrett acknowledged that a move to ireland might be difficult to convince his wife and family to support, given his age. He didn’t entirely rule out the possibility, stating, “Never say never.”
The potential move comes as younger brother Jordie Barrett has previously explored opportunities to play in Ireland. This adds another layer to the discussion, as Beauden has been directly asked about following in his brother’s footsteps.
