Ireland Heatwave continues; Dog Heatstroke a Concern
Ireland is set to experience another day of high temperatures, with the mercury potentially climbing to 29 degrees Celsius. While early morning thunderstorms are possible in the west, much of the country will enjoy sunshine. The coolest temperatures, ranging from 20 to 23 degrees, are expected in Munster and south Leinster.
Nighttime temperatures will remain mild, generally staying above 12 degrees Celsius. Though, isolated showers could occur in parts of ulster and Leinster. The temperature’s role in these conditions is meaningful, influencing both daily highs and overnight lows.
Met Éireann meteorologist Holly O’Neill noted the expected sunshine and warmth. She also highlighted the high ultra violet index, advising people to take precautions against sunburn.
The Dublin Society for Prevention of cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) is urging dog owners to be particularly cautious. Suzanne McGovern, head of operations for the DSPCA, emphasized the danger of heatstroke in dogs, which can lead to severe health problems and even death. She stressed the importance of keeping pets comfortable during the hot weather, noting that warm, dry temperatures can be perilous.
Looking ahead, scattered showers, some potentially heavy with thunder, are forecast for Saturday. Highs are still expected to reach 25 degrees Celsius, with the eastern part of the island experiencing the warmest conditions. The hot spell may break in some areas Saturday night as weather shifts from the Atlantic, though sunshine is still expected in many places.
