New Storm Names Announced for 2025/2026 Season in ireland, UK, and Netherlands
Overview
Met Éireann, Ireland’s national meteorological service, along with the UK Met Office and the Netherlands’ KNMI, announced a new list of 21 storm names for the upcoming storm season on May 1, 2024. The season runs from September 1, 2025, to august 31, 2026. This collaborative effort aims to raise awareness of severe weather impacts.
The New Storm Names
Each meteorological service contributed seven names to the list. Met Éireann sourced its names through a public campaign, receiving over 10,000 submissions from 4,137 individuals. The full list of names is as follows:

History of the Naming Program
The collaborative storm naming program between Met Éireann and the UK met Office began in 2015.The Netherlands’ KNMI joined the partnership in 2019. This joint effort provides a consistent and recognizable system for naming impactful weather systems across the three countries. (Met Éireann, 2024)
