Mick Lane, also from Cork, died peacefully at his home in Cork City on Sunday, November 10, 2025, at the remarkable age of 99. He was Ireland’s oldest surviving Lion at the time of his passing.
Lane won 17 caps for Ireland as a wing, playing a key role in the team’s success during the 1949 season, which saw them secure both a Triple Crown and a championship title. He further distinguished himself with two appearances for the British & Irish Lions during their 1950 tour of australia and New Zealand, participating in 11 games, including test matches against both host nations.
Lane scored one try for Ireland during a 12-8 Five Nations victory over Scotland in 1952, responding to an early try scored by James Davidson for the visitors.
