Irish Acts Among Favorites at Tonight’s Mercury Prize

Fontaines D.C. and CMAT Compete for Mercury Prize
Irish musicians Fontaines D.C. and CMAT are both nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize Album of the Year award, wiht the winner to be announced tonight, October 16, 2024.

Fontaines D.C. previously received a Mercury Prize nomination in 2019 for their debut album, Dogrel. This year, they are recognized for their album Romance, released September 22, 2024, via Partisan Records (Official Charts Company).
CMAT, whose real name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, is nominated for her album C’mon Baby, We Can Shimmy!, released October 13, 2023, via Columbia Records (Official Charts Company).
Other nominees for the 2024 Mercury Prize include Pulp, Sam Fender, FKA twigs, and Wolf Alice. The judging panel for this year’s awards features jazz musician Jamie Cullum, DJ Jamz supernova, The Times pop and rock critic Will Hodgkinson, and is chaired by Jeff Smith, Head of Music at Radio 2 (Official Charts Company).
The 2025 Mercury Prize ceremony will be held for the first time outside of London, at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. The event will include live performances by several of the nominated artists (Official Charts Company).
