Four charged After Violent Home Invasion in ‌Shankill, Dublin

Four individuals are⁢ facing ⁢charges ‍after‌ a violent home invasion in⁤ shankill, Co. Dublin,⁣ on Wednesday. Gardaí allege ‍that a 60-year-old man was brutally attacked​ in front of his​ family⁢ after three armed intruders forced their way into his home.

The accused are two 17-year-old boys, who cannot be named, Seán Doran, 26, of Earl Street South, and Gregory Dunne,⁣ 60, of Oliver Bond Flats, all in Dublin 8. They are charged with aggravated burglary at a residence in ⁤Shanganagh Cliffs, shankill, and unlawful‍ possession of a 9mm Skorpian machine ‍pistol made ⁤in Czechoslovakia. Both charges carry a⁢ maximum⁣ sentence of life in prison. The incident highlights the increasing concern over ​violent crime and the role of firearms in burglaries.

Doran faces an additional ⁢charge of assault causing harm to ‍the homeowner,who sustained‍ lacerations to his face ⁣and head. The Dublin District Court ⁢was informed that the garda ballistics section resolute the seized weapon was capable of fully automatic fire.

The court also heard that the homeowner, ⁤his‍ 63-year-old wife, and their 35-year-old son are in “grave fear” and have moved⁢ to a ‌hotel.They did not appear‌ to give evidence ⁣at the​ bail hearing.

Judge Michele Finan ​denied⁣ bail to all four defendants during a hearing at Dublin District ​Court ⁤on Saturday.‌ They ‍are scheduled to appear in court again next week. Gardaí cited the seriousness of ⁣the case and maintained that the four acted together in a joint enterprise, raising concerns about threats and‌ violence during the​ incident. One officer stated that denying bail was necessary to preserve the integrity ‍of the proceedings.

According to Garda witnesses, the two teenagers, wearing masks and puffer ​jackets, traveled to the location on an e-bike,‍ while Doran arrived in​ a car‍ driven by Dunne. Garda Liam Carroll alleged ⁤that one⁢ of the teenagers approached the house, brandished the gun at the family through the window, and then forced ⁢entry ⁣through‌ the front door. Doran​ allegedly⁤ entered through‍ a‌ rear entrance before the homeowner was attacked.

Det. Garda michael Murphy testified⁢ that Doran punched and kicked the man’s head and face,⁤ leaving bloodstains on Doran’s footwear. Defense⁤ counsel Sam Friel acknowledged that the blood had not yet been analyzed. Friel⁣ proposed⁣ bail with conditions, stating that his client was about to start a business and could work from home.

Det. Garda⁤ Darragh Phelan stated that the second ⁤teenager used boxer ‌shorts ⁢as​ a balaclava and left with the gun on an e-bike. A civilian witness reportedly‌ saw the youth discard⁢ the weapon before crashing on the M50⁣ between junctions 12 ⁤and 13.

gardaí responded‍ to a call from the couple’s distressed son, who reported that several males ⁢were attacking his⁤ parents’ ⁣home ​and that one had⁤ a gun pointed at them.the judge was told that the commotion could be ‌heard over the phone line.

The‍ car⁣ was stopped near the house, and armed support officers apprehended the two men ⁢and the teenager who allegedly ‌brandished the gun. Garda ⁣Aidan Myers agreed with solicitor Yvonne Bambury that her client, Dunne, drove to the house⁣ but did⁢ not enter. However, Myers added that it was a joint enterprise.The court learned that​ Dunne lost his partner of 40 ⁢years in 2021 and is a father of two⁤ adult children.

Solicitor Aoife McTaggart emphasized that the ​Children ⁢Act states that juvenile detention ⁣should be a⁢ last resort. She said the boys‍ were supported in court⁤ by visibly ⁢upset family⁤ members and would abide by strict conditions. ‍Despite these arguments,Judge Finan denied bail to all four,stressing ⁤that they have‍ a presumption of innocence but that ​the seriousness of the crime warranted the⁢ decision.
