A Carer Now Needing Care
A fundraising campaign is underway too support Ciara McGrath, a 38-year-old mother of three children – Ceili, Amelia, and MJ – as she fights stage 4 melanoma. Ciara, who previously dedicated her career to caring for others as a full-time carer, now requires support herself after being diagnosed with teh aggressive cancer.
Currently undergoing BRAF treatment, Ciara faces her illness with remarkable courage. However, as a public patient within the Irish healthcare system, her access to advanced treatment options is limited.
Seeking Specialized Treatment Abroad
To maximize her chances of successful treatment, Ciara needs access to specialized care and therapies available abroad. These treatments come with substantial financial burdens, including medical expenses, private treatment costs, and travel expenses. A GoFundMe campaign, organized by Ciara’s siblings Gemma (from Dublin), Kevin, and Orla, aims to alleviate these financial pressures.
Funds raised will also contribute to covering everyday living costs, allowing Ciara to focus on her health and, crucially, spending precious time with her children, whom she describes as her “whole world.” As of November 12, 2025, the campaign has raised over €18,486 towards its goal of €150,000. You can contribute to Ciara’s fight and learn more about her story on the GoFundMe page.
A Persistent Spirit
Ciara’s family describes her as “strong-willed, stubborn in the best way, and determined to face anything life throws at her.” These qualities, they say,are central to her unwavering fight against cancer.the campaign reflects a community rallying around a woman known for her kindness and compassion, now in need of support during a challenging time.
