Iron Maiden’s manager, Ron Smallwood, has strong feelings about concertgoers using mobile phones at the band’s shows. He recently expressed his hope that fans who insist on filming during performances experience “nothing but a sore arm.” This comes as the heavy metal band, celebrating their 50th anniversary, continues their ‘Run For Your Lives’ tour across Europe and the U.K.
Smallwood initially asked fans to limit phone use before the tour began. He urged them to immerse themselves in the concert experience rather than viewing it through a screen. He reiterated this sentiment after their recent performance in Budapest, Hungary.
In an Instagram post, Smallwood thanked fans who kept their phones down, respecting both the band and their fellow audience members. He emphasized that experiencing the show without the distraction of phones greatly benefits the band’s performance. He acknowledged that a few people still insisted on recording,but hoped the majority would continue to support the band’s request.
“A huge thank you to every one of you who kept your phones down, respected the band and your fellow fans, and embraced the show the way it’s meant to be experienced – in the room with us,” Smallwood said.
The current tour marks a significant milestone for iron Maiden, showcasing songs from their first nine studio albums. The tour also marks the debut of their new drummer, Simon Dawson, following Nicko McBrain’s retirement due to health reasons. McBrain suffered a stroke in 2023, which affected his right side.

Iron Maiden also plans to release a new documentary film later this year, celebrating their 50th anniversary. The film will feature rare footage, new animations, and interviews, including one of the last with paul Di’Anno.
