Interconexión Eléctrica (ISA) has appointed Olga Patricia Castaño Díaz as acting president following a decision by the Council of State to annul the appointment of Jorge Carrillo.

Castaño, who currently serves as the company’s vice president of Strategy, takes over the leadership role amidst a restructuring of the company’s high management and board of directors. The appointment was reported by Caracol Radio on May 5, 2026.

Board of Directors and Governance Changes

In a concurrent move, ISA unanimously re-elected Juan Pablo Zárate Perdomo as president of the Board of Directors. Zárate Perdomo is an independent member who has served as board president since April 2025.

The leadership transition effectively ended the possibility of Ricardo Roa assuming the board presidency. Roa remains a member of the company’s Corporate Governance, Sustainability, Technology, and Innovation Committee.

The shift in leadership follows a period of transition. Gabriel Melguizo previously served as acting president, but reporting from Infobae and El Colombiano indicates that internal decisions and tensions with the government influenced his departure from the role.

Professional Background of Olga Patricia Castaño Díaz

Olga Patricia Castaño Díaz has been with ISA for 26 years. Her tenure includes serving as the Corporate Management Manager at ISA Vías in Chile and leading the organizational transformation in 2013 that resulted in the separation of the company’s matrix role.

Castaño has also led the implementation and formulation of the last four strategic plans for the company.

Her academic credentials include:

  • A degree in business administration from the Universidad de Antioquia.
  • A Master of Science in Operational Research from the University of Lancaster in England.
  • A certificate in General Management and Advanced Leadership from the University of Cambridge in England.

Legal and Administrative Context

The leadership vacancy was created after the Council of State annulled the appointment of Jorge Carrillo. This legal development has led to further scrutiny of the board’s composition.

According to reports from MSN, the lawyer responsible for the legal challenge that overturned Carrillo’s election has also filed a lawsuit regarding Ricardo Roa’s participation on the board of directors.
