Heavy Rainfall Causes Landslides and Flooding on Ulleungdo Island
Ulleungdo Island recently experienced heavy rainfall of over 300 mm in just two days, resulting in widespread damage and disruption to the local community.
Silt and debris flowed down the mountain, cascading into residential areas and causing roads to collapse in several places.
According to eyewitnesses, the muddy water flowed erratically through the streets, creating a river-like effect in the middle of the residential area.
Residents were left to deal with the aftermath, with some homes sustaining damage due to flooding and sediment inflow.
One person was rescued from a house in Sadong-ri after becoming stranded, and four houses were damaged due to the flooding.
Local authorities activated the second emergency level of the security and disaster countermeasures headquarters and mobilized public officials to recover from the damage.
About 15 pieces of equipment and 400 people were deployed to carry out emergency repairs as soon as possible, with work continuing through the night to minimize disruption to residents.
Local governments and related authorities issued a landslide warning and asked people to pay special attention to safety-related incidents.
This incident highlights the importance of being prepared for natural disasters and taking necessary precautions to ensure public safety.
Ulleung-gun officials are working to restore the affected areas and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
