Netanyahu claims successful opening shot as Iran tensions escalate

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that israel’s initial strike against Iran achieved important results. “We have just completed a very successful opening shot adn, with the help of God, we will get a lot of results,” Netanyahu said in a video statement released by his office. Defense Minister Israel Katz and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer appeared alongside Netanyahu.
Meanwhile,the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is closely monitoring the situation at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility. IAEA head Rafael Grossi confirmed the site is among the objectives being watched. “The agency is in contact with the Iranian authorities and our inspectors and are monitoring radiation levels,” Grossi said.
Adding to the escalating tensions, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei vowed retaliation against Israel.”The Zionist regime got a bitter and painful destiny and will surely suffer it,” Khamenei stated, according to the Irna news agency. He reiterated that Israel “will suffer a tough punishment.”
Amid these developments, Israeli media, citing a Tehran security source via Reuters, reported that Khamenei is receiving regular updates on the situation. Another security source indicated that iran is planning a “hard response” to the Israeli attack.
According to The New York Times, the Israeli military targeted at least six Iranian military bases around Tehran, including the Parchin complex, which has been linked to past missile production and suspected nuclear tests. Reports also indicate a new wave of IDF attacks within Iran.
The IDF has reportedly recalled thousands of reservists under an emergency order, particularly to reinforce critical units within the Air Force, internal front command, northern and central commands, military intelligence, and logistics. Military readiness in the West Bank has also been increased.
Iranian state TV reported the assassination of Revolutionary Guards commander Hossein Salami.The report also stated that Gholamal Rashid, commander of the Khatamolanbia base; Mohammad-Mehdi Tehranchi, a nuclear scientist; and Fereidoun Abbasi, former head of Iran’s atomic energy organization, were killed in the Israeli attack.
“The International Agency for Atomic Energy is carefully monitoring the deeply worrying situation in Iran,” Grossi said.
“The leaders of Iran are currently holding an urgent security meeting,” a high Iranian official told Reuters.
