Bodies of Two Hostages Recovered by Israeli‍ Military

Tel Aviv, ⁤Israel ‍— The remains of two hostages, one a U.S. citizen, have been recovered⁣ by Israeli special forces, the​ military announced.

Judy Weinstein Haggai, ​70,⁢ who held U.S. and Canadian citizenship, and her husband, Gad Haggai, ​72, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen, were found near the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, according to the⁢ Israeli military.

Officials⁤ said⁢ the ​couple was killed in southern ⁤Israel during the Oct. 7​ attack.Their bodies‌ were subsequently taken to gaza by the Mujahideen Brigades, a​ smaller militant group.

An Israeli military official, speaking anonymously, said the recovery operation was based on intelligence gathered by the Hostages‍ and Missing ‌Persons headquarters.

The couple is⁤ survived by their four children and ‌other family members in both Israel and ⁤the United States.

The recovery leaves the bodies of two U.S.-Israeli citizens still held in Gaza. According to the Israeli government, roughly 36 deceased and 20 living ‍hostages remain captive in Gaza.

Israel and the U.S. are seeking a temporary ceasefire with Hamas, contingent on the release of half of the living and dead hostages. ‍Hamas has reportedly agreed to the terms but is demanding further negotiations for a permanent end to the conflict.
