Israel-Iran Conflict Intensifies: Strikes and Retaliation Escalate
updated June 19, 2025
The already unstable Middle East faces further turmoil as the Israel-Iran conflict entered its seventh day, marked by intensified air attacks and escalating casualties. The Israel-Iran conflict raises concerns of drawing in major world powers, potentially destabilizing the region already strained by the Gaza war.
Israeli prime minister benjamin Netanyahu stated that his nation is systematically eliminating threats from Iran’s nuclear facilities and missile stockpiles. According to reports, Israeli air and missile strikes, initiated last Friday, have killed approximately 640 Iranians, severely impacted Iran’s nuclear capabilities, and eliminated key iranian military leaders. A Washington-based human rights group reports that at least 263 of the Iranian deaths were civilians, with over 1,300 injured.
Iran has responded with retaliatory strikes, resulting in the deaths of two dozen Israeli civilians. This morning, Tehran reported activating its air defenses to intercept drones near the capital, according to the SNN news agency. Additionally, Iranian authorities claim to have apprehended 18 “enemy agents” in Mashhad, accused of constructing drones for planned attacks.
An iranian missile barrage also struck a hospital in Israel. Soroka Medical Center, a major medical facility in southern Israel, sustained a direct hit.
The international Atomic Energy Agency has not yet commented on the extent of the damage to Iranian nuclear sites.
We are hitting the nuclear sites, the missiles, the headquarters, the symbols of the regime,” Mr Netanyahu said.
