Israel and Iran Reach Tentative Ceasefire Agreement After 12-Day War
Updated June 24, 2025
Former President Donald Trump announced Monday night that Israel and Iran have reached a tentative ceasefire agreement to de-escalate tensions. The announcement regarding the Israel Iran conflict comes after nearly two weeks of escalating hostilities.
According to Trump, the ceasefire role will be implemented in stages, starting around midnight Eastern Time. As of Tuesday morning, neither the Israeli nor Iranian governments have publicly confirmed the truce.
The former president initially shared the news on Truth Social, stating, ”CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE…for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!”
Trump’s announcement outlined a plan where both countries would cease attacks for 12-hour periods. He added, “During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL.On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR.'”
The announcement followed iran’s attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar, which was in retaliation for an American bombing campaign targeting Iranian nuclear sites. Prior to this, Trump posted, “Congratulations, world, it’s time for peace.” The recent conflict began June 13 when Israel launched a surprise attack on Iranian military installations, leading to exchanges of missile barrages and airstrikes.
Trump concluded his announcement by saying, “This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle east, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
What’s next
The world now waits to see if the ceasefire agreement holds and if further negotiations will lead to a lasting peace between Israel and Iran. The role of international mediators may become crucial in the coming days.
