Iran Appoints New Revolutionary Guard Commander After Airstrikes

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, has appointed new leaders for the Revolutionary Guards and armed forces. The move follows the deaths of several commanders in recent Israeli strikes.
Mohammad Pakpour will now command the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), succeeding Hossein Salami. Abdolrahim Mousavi replaces mohammad Bagheri as chief of the armed forces general staff. General ali Shadmani becomes Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya (pbuh) Central HQ.
Khamenei announced Pakpour’s appointment on X, citing his “meritorious services and valuable experience.”
The “Operation Rising Lion” strikes targeted Iranian nuclear sites and military bases. Blasts were reported at Iran’s main uranium processing complex in Natanz. Israel has since announced an emergency status,preparing for potential Iranian retaliation.
General Hossein Salami, IRGC commander-in-chief as 2019, died when the IRGC headquarters in Tehran was hit. Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the highest-ranking military official, and General gholam Ali Rashid, leader of Khatam al-Anbiya state headquarters, also perished.
Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to the supreme leader and former IRGC commander, was critically injured, according to local news sources.Six nuclear scientists, including Abdolhamid Minouchehr and Ahmadreza Zolfaghari, also died in the attack.
