Israel Launches Counterattack on Hezbollah in Southern Beirut
Israel Attacks Southern Beirut
Israel launched an attack on southern Beirut, Lebanon, today. The Israeli military stated it targeted the Hezbollah group. This attack followed Hezbollah’s claim that they fired at Israeli bases near Haifa.
Smoke was seen rising from the outskirts of Beirut after the strikes. AFP reported that Israeli military warned civilians in three areas to evacuate before the attack. The Israeli military had reported a heavy rocket attack on Haifa the previous night, which struck a synagogue and injured two civilians.
Hezbollah reportedly fired around 80 projectiles at Israel on Saturday.
Three Suspects Arrested
Israeli police arrested three suspects after two flares landed near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea, south of Haifa. Netanyahu was not home during the incident.
This event occurred about a month after a drone targeted the same residence, which Hezbollah claimed responsibility for.
The head of the Israeli military stated that Hezbollah has “paid a heavy price,” but they will continue to fight until their displaced citizens can safely return home.
