Syrian security forces were seen patrolling the southern Druze city of Sweida following Israeli airstrikes. the Syrian Ministry of Defense stated that its forces had retaliated after coming under fire.
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, reportedly declared that the Israeli military would continue to target Syrian forces until they withdrew and “leave Druze alone.” This statement, according to local reports, highlights Israel’s stated intention to protect Druze populations in the region.
Syria, though, has accused militias within Sweida of breaching a ceasefire agreement that was only recently established on Tuesday. The Syrian defence ministry issued a statement asserting, “Military forces continue to respond to the source of fire inside the city of Sweida, while adhering to rules of engagement to protect residents, prevent harm, and ensure the safe return of those who left the city back to their homes.”
The situation in Sweida remains tense, with both sides presenting differing accounts of the events and their motivations. The involvement of external forces in the internal Syrian conflict continues to be a complex and volatile issue.Read more from sky News:
