Israeli Strikes Escalate in Lebanon Despite Ceasefire

Israeli forces have intensified strikes targeting alleged Hezbollah sites across southern and eastern Lebanon, even as a ceasefire agreement remains in effect. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported multiple attacks over the past several days, citing the need to dismantle what they describe as Hezbollah’s “terror infrastructure.”

On Sunday, February 15, 2026, the IDF announced strikes on Hezbollah military targets, including weapons storage facilities and rocket launchers. According to a statement released on Telegram, the presence of these weapons was deemed a violation of the ceasefire understandings established between Israel and Lebanon. The IDF stated it will “continue to operate to remove any threat to the State of Israel.”

The recent escalation comes after a ceasefire brokered by the United States came into effect at the end of November 2024, following two months of open conflict. The agreement stipulated the disarmament of Hezbollah, a condition the Lebanese government was tasked with enforcing by the end of December. However, the IDF alleges that Hezbollah has been attempting to rebuild its capabilities in southern Lebanon.

Earlier this week, on Wednesday and Thursday, the IDF reported targeting alleged Hezbollah fighters in the Janta and Nazriya areas of southern Lebanon. On December 25, 2025, the IDF also reported strikes targeting alleged terrorists. These strikes are occurring despite the ceasefire holding, albeit with sporadic clashes between the IDF and Gaza militants.

The IDF has also been conducting operations within Gaza, having pulled back forces to what they term the “yellow line,” which IDF Chief Eyal Zamir described as “a new border line” with Gaza. The ceasefire in Gaza is currently in its first of three proposed phases, with details of the second phase still under negotiation. The remains of one deceased hostage are reportedly still in Gaza.

On December 18, 2025, Israeli airstrikes targeted the outskirts of the southern Lebanese village of al-Qatrani, according to reports. The IDF has also announced targeting a Hezbollah operative in the Taybeh area. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported strikes on mountainous areas in the south and east of the country.

The ongoing strikes have resulted in casualties. According to Lebanese government figures, more than 300 people have been killed in Lebanon since the ceasefire began, with the United Nations reporting that over 100 of those fatalities were civilians.

On December 24, 2025, an IDF officer was lightly injured near Rafah by an improvised explosive device. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office stated that Hamas continues to violate the ceasefire agreement.

Recent reports also indicate an Israeli airstrike that killed a TV presenter in southern Lebanon, according to Al Jazeera. Several intensive airstrikes were reported targeting various areas in southern Lebanon, as reported by multiple Arabic news sources including إرم نيوز, العربية, and بوابة الشروق.

The situation remains volatile, with mediators working to prevent a renewed Israeli military operation and maintain the fragile ceasefire. The IDF maintains its commitment to addressing any perceived threats emanating from Lebanon.
