Israel Strikes Hezbollah’s Military Infrastructure Amid Ceasefire Violations
Israel Strikes Military Infrastructure on Syria-Lebanon Border
Israel’s military reported that it targeted military infrastructure on the Syria-Lebanon border used by Hezbollah for arms smuggling. This action contradicts the ongoing ceasefire agreement between the parties.
On Saturday, Israeli forces stated, “The air force conducted strikes on military infrastructure near the border crossing between Syria and Lebanon, actively used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons.” This operation occurred after the ceasefire was officially in place.
The Israeli military also conducted searches in southern Lebanon, confiscating hidden weapons from a mosque associated with Hezbollah. The ceasefire began on Wednesday to halt fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
As part of the agreement, Lebanese troops and UN peacekeepers will be deployed in southern Lebanon, while Israeli forces will withdraw over the next 60 days. Hezbollah is expected to pull back its troops north of the Litani River and dismantle its military infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
Israel maintains that it will act militarily in Lebanon if Hezbollah breaches the ceasefire or attempts to rearm. Several strikes have taken place in Lebanon since the ceasefire started.
