Israel Strikes Iran’s Military Facility, Disrupts Nuclear Bomb Development
Israel Targets Iranian Military Facility
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — Israel has attacked a military facility in Iran, destroying advanced equipment and hindering its nuclear bomb development capabilities. The strike occurred in October at the Teleghan 2 facility in Parchin, Tehran Province, which Iran has used for testing explosives for nuclear devices before 2003.
Two Israeli sources indicated that the strike by Israeli forces resulted in significant damage to Iran’s advanced equipment. A senior Israeli official stated, “This equipment is necessary for Iran if they wish to develop a nuclear bomb,” as reported by the Jerusalem Post on November 17.
The destroyed equipment was crucial for shaping and testing the plastic explosives that encase uranium in Iran’s nuclear devices. It is also vital for initiating nuclear chain reactions.
Iran had stored this equipment at Parchin since 2003, though it had not been used in recent years. However, Israeli sources believe it could be employed in the future if Iran resumes nuclear bomb development. They noted that Iran would need to replace the destroyed equipment to continue its nuclear ambitions.
“Now, they do not have it, and finding alternatives will not be easy. We will monitor such efforts,” stated the Israeli official. They expressed confidence that either Israeli authorities or their close ally, the United States, would detect any Iranian attempts to acquire new equipment.
“This equipment is now a barrier. Iran will not be able to obtain it,” one source commented. Iran had previously used this sophisticated equipment before it halted its nuclear program in 2023.
In recent years, Iran has allegedly continued research related to nuclear weapons. U.S. and Israeli officials have reported that Iran is pursuing scientific activities that could support nuclear weapon development. However, some believe these activities might be presented as civilian research.
“They are conducting scientific work that could form the basis for nuclear weapon production,” stated a U.S. official, adding that this work remains highly secretive and is known only to a few Iranian government officials.
Israel’s attack on Iran’s military site was a response to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeting Israel with missiles in early October. Israel retaliated on October 26, focusing on military facilities in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam.
