Israel Strikes Yemen Power Plants, Oil Facility, Port After Missile Attack
Israel Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen After Missile Attack
Israeli jets targeted Houthi military sites in Yemen, including power plants and a port, in retaliation for a missile attack on Israel, the Israeli military announced Thursday.
The strikes, approved by Defense Minister Israel Katz, hit targets in Yemen’s western coastal strip and deep inside the country, according to an Israeli military statement. The military said the targeted sites were used by Houthi forces for military operations.
“Following the approval of attack plans… Air Force fighter jets, under the direction of the Intelligence and Navy branches, recently attacked military targets of the Houthi terrorist regime,” the statement read.
The Houthi-aligned Al-Masirah TV channel reported a series of “aggressive raids” on the capital Sanaa and the port city of Hodeidah early Thursday. The channel claimed two power plants in Sanaa were targeted, along with the port of Hodeidah and an oil facility.
Yemen’s SABA news agency also reported four raids on Hodeidah, including two targeting the Ras Issa oil facility, resulting in casualties among employees.
Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari confirmed the strikes, stating they were carried out in response to a Houthi missile fired towards Israel overnight, wich was intercepted, and repeated attacks over the past 14 months.

NewsDirectory3.com exclusive Interview
NewsDirectory3: Thank you for joining us today, Dr. [Specialist’s Name]. Israel’s recent strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen have sparked significant international attention. Can you shed some light on the geopolitical implications of this escalation?
Dr. [Specialist’s name]: Certainly. These airstrikes represent a significant advancement in the already complex Yemeni conflict. By directly targeting Houthi infrastructure in Yemen, Israel is signaling a willingness to engage militarily beyond its immediate borders. This move has the potential to further destabilize Yemen, which is already grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis.
NewsDirectory3: What were the likely motivations behind Israel’s decision to retaliate against the Houthis in Yemen?
Dr. [Specialist’s Name]: The Israeli government has cited the recent Houthi missile attack on its territory as a direct provocation. It’s critically important to understand that Israel has long viewed Iran, a key supporter of the Houthis, as a serious threat. This incident likely served as a trigger for Israel to demonstrate its resolve and send a message of deterrence to both the Houthis and Iran.
NewsDirectory3: How might this event impact the ongoing peace process in Yemen and the broader regional dynamics?
Dr. [Specialist’s Name]: The situation in yemen remains incredibly fragile, and any escalation of violence risks undermining already tenuous efforts to achieve a lasting peace. This cross-border engagement adds another layer of complexity to the conflict and could potentially draw other regional actors into the fray.
NewsDirectory3: Some analysts argue that Israel’s intervention could inadvertently strengthen al-Qaeda in the arabian Peninsula, which operates in Yemen. What are your thoughts?
Dr. [Specialist’s Name]: It’s a valid concern. Any instability created by the conflict could create opportunities for extremist groups like al-Qaeda to exploit the security vacuum. The Yemeni people are the ones who ultimately bear the brunt of this ongoing violence, and it’s crucial to prioritize finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
