Trump ⁢Predicts Hostage Release Amidst Ongoing Negotiations

US President Donald Trump has stated that‍ ten more hostages are expected to be released from Gaza “shortly,” though he provided ​no further ‌details.Speaking at a White House dinner, Trump praised the efforts of his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in facilitating these potential ⁤releases.”We⁤ got most of ‍the hostages back.‍ We’re going⁣ to have another 10 coming very shortly, and we hope to have ​that ⁢finished‍ quickly,” Trump remarked. He has, for weeks, expressed‌ optimism about an imminent ​ceasefire and hostage-release deal, though an agreement ⁣has‍ remained elusive.Israeli and ⁢Hamas negotiators have been engaged in the latest ⁣round of talks in Doha since⁢ July 6th, discussing a US-backed proposal for⁣ a​ 60-day ceasefire. This proposal reportedly includes the return of​ ten hostages⁣ and the bodies of ⁣eighteen others, in ‌exchange for the release of Palestinian detainees held by Israel.

A ‌spokesperson for Hamas’s armed wing indicated that the group favors an interim⁤ truce⁢ but may revert to demanding a thorough deal to end⁣ the conflict if current negotiations falter. Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of hindering progress towards an agreement.

Houthi Missile Attack on Israel Intercepted

in a separate progress, Yemen’s Houthi ⁤militant group claimed responsibility ‌for launching a ⁢ballistic ⁣missile targeting israel’s Ben Gurion Airport near‌ Tel Aviv. The Israeli military confirmed that the projectile was‌ intercepted after triggering​ air raid ​sirens‍ across several⁤ parts of the country.The majority of missiles and drones launched by the⁢ Houthis towards Israel have been intercepted or ‌failed to reach⁣ their ‌targets. Israel⁣ has conducted retaliatory strikes⁣ in ‌response to these attacks.

The ‍Iran-aligned Houthis have been targeting Israel and disrupting⁣ shipping lanes in the ‍Red Sea since November 2023,​ citing ‍solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. This has significantly impacted global oil ⁢and commodity traffic⁤ through the vital waterway.

Escalating Conflict ‍and Humanitarian Toll

the ongoing conflict has resulted in a devastating humanitarian toll. According to health authorities in Gaza, Israeli attacks have⁤ killed over 58,600 ⁣Palestinians. On the Israeli side, nearly 1,650 Israelis and foreign nationals have lost their lives, including‍ 1,200 killed during the ⁤Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

Mediators from Qatar and Egypt, with support ⁤from‍ the United⁤ States, have been facilitating over ten days of ⁣talks aimed at achieving a 60-day truce in the conflict ⁣that‌ has devastated⁣ the palestinian enclave.
