Israeli-Palestinian Friendship: Hope After Conflict – NPR

Israeli ⁤and Palestinian friends Pursue Peace ⁢After ‍Gaza War

Following the​ Hamas-led attack ​on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the⁢ subsequent war ⁢in Gaza, an Israeli man, Maoz Inon, and his Palestinian friend, Aziz ⁤Abu Sarah, are focusing on building peaceful coexistence. Their efforts aim to replicate the timeframe of the Egypt-Israel peace​ treaty, which⁣ took five years‌ to materialize after their 1973 war.

A ⁤Decade-Long Friendship

Inon and Abu Sarah initially ⁤connected a ​decade ago in Jerusalem over tea. Their relationship primarily‍ existed on Facebook until the events of October‌ 7th, 2023.

Reaching Out After ‍Tragedy

Inon’s parents were killed during the Hamas attack.Abu Sarah contacted Inon following the tragedy, offering support.

“It’s like a hand reaching⁣ out that⁣ came and saved me from falling ⁣down into the trauma, into the pain, drowning in ​this ⁢ocean of sorrow and agony.”

Building⁣ Peace From the Ground ‍Up

The two​ men are now working with⁢ other activists, meeting at an art school in‍ Jaffa, a mixed ​Jewish and Arab neighborhood, ‌to‌ foster peace initiatives. They believe in a grassroots approach to reconciliation.
