Israeli Settlers Set Fire to Mosque in West Bank Amid Rising Tensions
West Bank Mosque Damaged in Suspected Arson Attack
Marda, West Bank – A mosque in the West Bank village of marda was damaged in a suspected arson attack on Friday, raising tensions in an already volatile region.Witnesses reported seeing a group of individuals, believed to be Israeli settlers, entering the eastern neighborhood of Marda near Salfit. The group allegedly set fire to the Bir al-Walidain Mosque before fleeing the scene.
Local residents managed to extinguish the flames, but not before the fire caused significant damage to the mosque’s structure. The village of Marda is located adjacent to the Israeli settlement of Ariel and is surrounded by a barbed-wire fence.
“This is a horrific act of vandalism and a clear attempt to intimidate our community,” said a Marda resident who wished to remain anonymous. “We are deeply saddened by this attack on our place of worship.”
The incident comes amid heightened tensions across the West Bank following Israel’s ongoing military operation in Gaza. The conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life, with over 800 Palestinians killed and thousands more injured, according to the Palestinian health Ministry.
In July, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a ruling declaring Israel’s decades-long occupation of palestinian land unlawful and calling for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
