Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Institution, announced on X that a child died “becuase of the interruption of care” at the Al-Ahli Hospital in northern Gaza. This is the first reported casualty following Israel’s declaration of an expanded offensive “in moast” of the besieged Palestinian territory.
According to Palestinian civil Defence, the strike occurred “a few minutes” after the Israeli army issued an evacuation order.
Ghebreyesus stated that “the emergency department, the laboratory, the radiography devices… emergencies and the pharmacy have been destroyed.” He added that the hospital, which housed 40 patients in critical condition who could not be evacuated, “can no longer receive new patients” immediately.
