Israel’s Netanyahu Signals Support for Lebanon Ceasefire Proposal Amid Ongoing Conflict
Israel’s Consideration of a Ceasefire Proposal
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel is reportedly considering a ceasefire proposal with Iranian proxy forces in Lebanon, specifically Hezbollah. This development comes amid ongoing attacks by Hezbollah against Israel’s capital, Tel Aviv.
Despite the positive direction of negotiations, Israel has not yet agreed on several details of the ceasefire proposal, which was due for submission to the Lebanese government today. A source involved in the talks mentioned that both Israeli forces and Hezbollah continue to exchange fire, complicating the negotiation process.
Amos Hochstein, the U.S. representative in Beirut, stated last week that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon “is within our reach.” However, the outcome depends on the “decisions of each party.” Hochstein has met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who acts as a mediator for Hezbollah in these negotiations. He described the discussions as constructive and significant in addressing disparities.
