Issa Rae and the core creative team behind HBO’s landmark series “Insecure” have cancelled their upcoming 13-city anniversary tour due to conflicting work commitments, according to a joint social media announcement. The multi-city run, which was first announced in July, was scheduled to kick off on September 10 in Philadelphia before stopping in major markets including Washington, D.C., Detroit, Boston, Brooklyn, Las Vegas, Oakland, Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston.
Scheduling Conflicts Derail the 13-City Tour
According to reporting from Complex, Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, and showrunner Prentice Penny revealed the cancellation in a video posted to HOORAE’s Instagram account. The cast utilized the comedic tone of the series to break the news to fans, with Rae initially attempting to share the update before passing the responsibility to her co-stars.
As reported by Yahoo Entertainment, Ellis appeared in the video from a production set, stating, I’m on set shooting my new show, The Rookie North, y’all. Happy 10th anniversary, though.
Meanwhile, Rothwell addressed the group dynamics directly in the clip. Hey guys, looks like I have to carry this like I did all five seasons. The tour ain’t happening, y’all. I’m so sorry,
Rothwell said, according to Complex.
Penny provided the definitive explanation for the scrapped dates. Guys, we are so sorry we had to cancel the tour. We are all so bummed, I’m serious. But everybody started working, which is good,
Penny said, as cited by Yahoo Entertainment. Rae expanded on the decision, noting, Unfortunately, our schedules got messed up, and we are so sorry, but we only wanted to do this if we could all be there and give you the best experience possible.

Single Inglewood Event Still Scheduled
Despite the cancellation of the broader tour, producers confirmed that a standalone event will still take place on October 8 at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, returning to the hometown where the series originated. Yahoo Entertainment noted that Rae confirmed in her social media caption that all ticket refunds for the 13 cancelled dates will be fully honored. The anniversary tour was designed to feature candid stories and behind-the-scenes insights from the people who built the show. The series itself, created by Rae and Larry Wilmore, originally premiered on HBO and ran for five seasons, earning widespread critical acclaim for centering Black millennial life, career ambition, and authentic community dynamics in South Los Angeles.
