TriStar Pictures is moving forward with a sequel to the comedy hit, One of Them Days. Keke Palmer and SZA are slated to return as the best friends at the heart of the story, which highlights Black female friendship in Los Angeles. Issa Rae,who produced the original,championed authentic storytelling.
The 2025 film, directed by Lawrence Lamont and written by Syreeta Singleton, earned over $51 million globally on a $14 million budget.It also held a spot in Netflix’s top 10 for three weeks after its streaming debut. The plot centered on Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) as they tried to recover rent money.
SZA, in her acting debut, expressed enthusiasm for acting again, but only if Palmer is involved. Palmer praised SZA’s acting abilities, noting her smooth transition from music.
“You just know these people. it was important to us to weave elements of who Keke and SZA are into their characters, making them authentic and whole,” Issa Rae said, emphasizing the film’s authentic portrayal of Black female friendships.
