Issey Miyake Opens Pleats Please Flagship in New York
Issey Miyake will open a new Pleats Please flagship store on December 12. The store is located at 14 Kenmare Street in New York’s NoLIta, covering 2,224 square feet on the ground floor of Tadao Ando’s first New York building.
The store design is by the Japanese firm Moment. It features sharp lines, concrete floors, and wall panels made of white molded resin, reflecting the brand’s signature pleating style. The store will have 60 feet of frontage on Kenmare Street.
To celebrate the opening, Pleats Please will offer a new collection called Soil & Leaf, featuring exclusive pleated tops, skirts, and dresses.
This flagship store joins another location at 126 Prince Street in SoHo, which will undergo renovations in early 2025. Together, these are the only Pleats Please stores in the U.S. Other locations exist in Tokyo, Paris, and various Asian cities. Issey Miyake products are also available in flagship stores across multiple cities worldwide.
Pleats Please was launched by Issey Miyake in 1993. The collection gained popularity due to its easy-to-wear shapes and innovative designs, ideal for travel. Miyake began experimenting with pleating in the late 1980s after a significant exhibition. He aimed to create garments that maintained their shape and were easy to care for. Today, the collection includes a range of clothing for women and men, all centered around pleats.
