Experience the magic of Winter Solstice at Illinois State University Planetarium
Normal, IL – As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, the Illinois State University Planetarium invites you too celebrate the season with its enchanting holiday programme, Season of Light. Running weekends from December 6th through December 21st, this captivating full-dome experience explores the rich history and diverse traditions surrounding the winter solstice.
Journey through time and cultures as the program, narrated by the soothing voice of National Public Radio’s Noah Adams, unveils the fascinating rituals and beliefs associated with the shortest day of the year. from ancient Egyptian and Roman practices to celtic, Nordic, and Hopi customs, Season of Light illuminates the worldwide human fascination with light during the darkest time of year.
But the program isn’t just about ancient history. It also delves into the lighthearted traditions we cherish today, from the romantic gesture of kissing under the mistletoe to the joyful melodies of holiday carols.Showtimes:
fridays at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays at 2:00 p.m.and 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available for purchase 20 minutes before each show at the Planetarium. Cash or check only. Seating is limited, so arrive early to secure your spot.
