It is rumored that 10 million yuan gave political commentary program Chen Zhihan: It is basically 0 yuan politics |
Political Donations Scandal Involving Ko Wen-je
During the general election, the chairman of the People’s Party, Ko Wen-je, was accused of gathering unregistered political donations and bribes. Reports claim he allocated NT$10 million for political commentary programs. Chen Zhihan, a spokesman for the National Competition Commission, stated that the budget for these programs was originally zero. He invited TV stations involved to testify about the matter.
Investigations into Ko Wen-je’s finances revealed that he collected unregistered funds and used them to support his key supporters. In the previous presidential election, he reportedly disbursed around NT$30 million through Taiwan’s New Hometown Think Tank Association. This included over NT$25.56 million to local radio stations, NT$3 million to Taipei Voice, and NT$10 million for a political commentary program led by Chen Zhihan.
Ko Wen-je directed Chen Zhihan to lead the commentary program, instructing him to aggressively target rival political groups from July to December last year.
Chen Zhihan responded via Facebook, denying he was given a NT$10 million budget for the program during Ko Wen-je’s 2024 presidential campaign. He pointed out that if such funding existed, the difficulties faced by the media would not be so severe.
He also offered to testify, asserting that he had not received the budget claimed by Mirror Weekly and criticized the publication for spreading false information.
