What Happened?

A fire broke out at the Le constellation nightclub in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on new Year’s Eve, resulting in numerous injuries and several people reported missing. the incident prompted an immediate investigation into the cause of the fire and the club’s adherence to safety regulations.

According to the Swiss ambassador to Italy,as of January 2,2026,13 Italian citizens have been identified among the injured, and 11 remain unaccounted for. Swiss authorities report that of the 119 people injured in the fire, the identities of 14 remain unconfirmed.

An investigation,led by Béatrice Pilloud,the chief prosecutor of the canton of Valais,is underway to determine the cause of the rapid fire spread and to verify whether Le Constellation complied with all applicable safety regulations. The French owners of the club have stated to Swiss media that the premises met safety standards, citing three inspections conducted over the past 10 years.

Prosecutor General Béatrice Pilloud clarified that they are not currently considered suspects and are fully cooperating with the investigation, as they emphasized in a statement to Le Soir. Pilloud also stated that criminal proceedings will be initiated against anyone found criminally responsible for the fire, provided they are still alive.
