Italy Tax deadline, Rome Transport Hikes & Summer Sales

Income Tax Payment Due
Monday marks the deadline for the initial installment of Italy’s personal income tax (Irpef). A second payment is due Dec. 1. Self-employed workers under Italy’s flat tax system have until July 20, following a government decree issued June 12.
all income tax payments require the modello F24 tax form, available at banks and post offices. The Italian Revenue Agency provides guidance on completing the form. Taxpayers can also seek assistance from an accountant or tax assistance center.
Rome Public Transport Fare Increase
Rome’s public transport fares will increase Tuesday,primarily affecting tourists. Monthly and yearly passes, along with single-journey tickets, remain unchanged. However, daily tickets will rise to €8.50 from €7, and two-day passes will cost €15, up from €12.50. Three-day and weekly passes will also see increases.
Mayor Roberto Gualtieri called the increases a “painful necessity” to address a €22 million funding gap needed to renew the city’s agreement with transport operator Atac.
New Flight Routes to Italy
Several airlines are launching new summer routes to and from Italy this week. Ryanair will begin weekly flights between Trieste and Stockholm on Wednesday. Vueling will launch twice-weekly flights between Rimini and Barcelona, also on Wednesday, followed by thrice-weekly flights between Salerno and Barcelona starting Thursday.
Volotea is also set to launch three new Italy-France routes this week.
Palio di Siena
The Palio di Siena, a renowned horse race, occurs Wednesday. Held twice annually, July 2 and Aug. 16, 10 of Siena’s 17 districts compete in the Piazza del Campo. A parade featuring nearly 700 people in historical costumes precedes the race.
New Italy-France Night Train
Trenitalia will launch a new night train, the Espresso Riviera, linking Rome to Marseille, starting Friday. The train will run weekly from July 4 to Aug. 30. Trains depart Rome’s Termini station at 7:57 p.m. on Fridays, with return journeys leaving Marseille at 2:46 p.m. on Saturdays.
Start of Italy’s Summer Sales
Saturday marks the start of summer sales across Italy, excluding Trento and Bolzano. Discounts typically begin at 20-30%, possibly reaching 70%. The sales last at least one month, with regional variations in duration.
Free Museum Openings
Sunday offers free entry to numerous state-run museums and archaeological sites under the Domenica al Museo scheme. Participating sites include the Colosseum, Pompeii, and Florence’s Galleria dell’Accademia.
