J.Crew has tapped Scottie Pippen, Dave Franco, Amandla Stenberg, and Bowen Yang alongside 156 other individuals for its most ambitious portrait campaign to date, launching the project on September 22, according to reporting from The Hollywood Reporter.
Celebrating Four Decades of a Wardrobe Staple
To mark the 40th anniversary of its signature Barn Jacket, J.Crew assembled 160 individuals spanning A-listers, athletes, cultural icons, and local legends for direct portraits in the outerwear, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The campaign was shot by photographer Robert Nethery across New York City, Los Angeles, Austin, Boston, and Chicago. Alongside Pippen, Franco, Stenberg, and Yang, the roster of participants includes Spike Lee, Chance the Rapper, Jenny Slate, Hari Nef, Vince Staples, Aly Raisman, Robby Hoffman, and Owen Thiele. The project blends recognizable celebrity faces with open-casting discoveries to highlight the garment’s enduring history.
Design Evolution and Retail Pricing
First introduced in 1986, the Barn Jacket has undergone several updates while maintaining its core functionality, according to Olympia Gayot, Creative Director of Women’s and Kids at J.Crew, who was cited by The Hollywood Reporter. Gayot noted that the jacket takes on a completely different personality depending on who wears it, moving effortlessly between wardrobes and generations. The updated 2026 collection spans 29 styles across women’s, men’s, and kids’ sizes, featuring a reworked silhouette with a boxier fit hitting at the waist while keeping original details like corduroy accents and ample pockets. Prices for the collection range from $98 to $898, with the original 1986 classic fit also available online alongside newer iterations in denim, wool, Italian suede, and signature cotton canvas.
Scale and Individuality in the 2026 Rollout
Julia Collier, Chief Marketing Officer of J.Crew, emphasized the scale of the production. The scale of this campaign is extraordinary, but its power comes from the individuality within it,
Collier stated, pointing to how the piece shifts across communities and personal styles.
The accompanying imagery, films, and product selections are currently live on jcrew.com. The launch continues the retailer’s seasonal celebrity marketing strategies following earlier rollouts like Emma Chamberlain’s campaign for the heritage rollneck sweater.
