Ja Rule is attempting to move past the recent, highly publicized altercation with G-Unit affiliates Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda, characterizing the incident on a flight as a misunderstanding. The rapper, whose real name is William James Griffin Jr., publicly apologized for his behavior following the Super Bowl LX weekend encounter, stating he wasn’t proud of how he acted.

Speaking with TMZ, Ja Rule emphasized his maturity and lack of regret regarding the apology. “I’m a grown man,” he said. However, when pressed on the possibility of resolving his long-standing feud with 50 Cent and the G-Unit crew, he indicated a reconciliation isn’t on the horizon.

While acknowledging the decades-long animosity, Ja Rule suggested a peaceful coexistence is possible. “Sometimes in life people have enemies and that’s okay,” he explained. “But we also don’t have to be at war.” He further elaborated on the incident during an appearance on the TODAY show, downplaying the severity of the confrontation, stating, “nothing really happened” between himself, Yayo, and Murda.

Ja Rule reacts to being labeled ‘soft’ for apologizing about the plane incident and taking the high road with 50 Cent & his G-Unit crew (including Tony Yayo): ‘I don’t gotta be at war. I’m a grown man—I’m almost 50 years old.’ pic.twitter.com/JUcw9t9gqK

“I live by a code,” Ja Rule Says

Despite minimizing the incident itself, Ja Rule framed it as a valuable lesson for his sons regarding conflict resolution and maintaining composure. “There’s a responsibility that we have to be gentlemen. I live by a code. I call it the gentleman’s code. But I’m also raising young men. So you have to let them know that there’s no room for disrespect, but also that there’s a way to carry yourself. So two things can be true. Disrespect is not tolerated, but there is a way you carry yourself in certain spaces,” he stated.

The apology, issued last week following the viral video of the altercation, was a direct response to his own behavior. In a February 12th Instagram post, Ja Rule expressed his disappointment. “I’m not proud of my behavior, it’s goofy to me,” he wrote. He also expressed regret that the video had surfaced, noting his discomfort with being portrayed out of character. “I’m a grown man about to be a grandfather, and I wish that video of me wasn’t out there either,” he continued. “I don’t like people taking me out of my character, so for that, I apologize to my wife, family, fans, business, and investment partners.”

The incident, which occurred on a flight following Super Bowl LX in San Francisco, is the latest chapter in a feud that began in 1999 between Ja Rule and 50 Cent. Over the years, the rivalry has extended to their respective entourages, with Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda consistently aligned with 50 Cent and G-Unit. According to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle, the altercation involved a “pillow fight” and took place on a Delta flight.

While Ja Rule has attempted to downplay the significance of the airplane incident, framing it as a “misunderstanding” as reported by According2HipHop, the event has reignited discussion about the enduring nature of the rivalry. The apology, however, signals a desire to move forward with a degree of maturity and avoid further escalation. The incident occurred just days after Ja Rule attended the 27th Annual Angel Ball in New York City on October 27, 2025.

The long-term implications of Ja Rule’s approach remain to be seen. While a full reconciliation with 50 Cent and G-Unit appears unlikely, his willingness to de-escalate and prioritize his personal image suggests a shift in strategy. The rapper’s focus on setting an example for his sons also indicates a desire to move beyond the conflicts of the past and focus on his future role as a family man, and grandfather.
