Jack Doohan will be joining the Haas Formula 1 Team as a Reserve Driver for the 2026 season, the team announced today, February 3, 2026. The Australian driver, previously affiliated with Alpine, will share reserve duties with Japanese racer Ryō Hirakawa.

Doohan’s move to Haas comes after a period with Alpine where he served as a reserve driver in 2023 and 2024, punctuated by a seven-race stint as a race driver beginning with the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and continuing through the opening six races of 2025. He subsequently returned to a reserve role with Alpine, before ultimately parting ways with the team last month.

The February 3rd announcement marks a continuation of Doohan’s Formula 1 journey, providing him with a platform to remain involved in the sport and potentially step into a racing role should the need arise. He will be looking to capitalize on his experience as a reserve driver, honing his skills and staying prepared for any opportunity to return to the grid.

“I’m thrilled to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team,” Doohan said in a statement released by the team. “It’s the ideal place to continue my Formula 1 career. I would like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to grow and take on the great challenge of 2026 together. I’m eager to begin working with the team and collaborating on a successful season.”

Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu expressed his enthusiasm for Doohan’s arrival, highlighting the driver’s strong racing resume and prior experience in a reserve role. “I’m personally very excited to have Jack join us on the team given the strength of his racing resume and of course his experience in being a reserve driver in Formula 1,” Komatsu stated. “The dedication required to remain sharp and prepared to race while getting to know how the team works and so on, it’s challenging for any driver – especially one who’s obviously still very keen to race again at this level. I’ve enjoyed getting to know Jack and we’re looking forward to welcoming him into the team and benefiting from his contributions.”

Doohan’s path to Formula 1 has been marked by both opportunity and challenge. The son of five-time 500cc motorcycling World Champion Mick Doohan, he finished third overall in the 2023 Formula 2 season, earning him the opportunity to make his Formula 1 debut with Alpine. While his initial stint as a race driver in 2025 was relatively brief – six Grands Prix – it provided valuable experience at the highest level of motorsport.

His time at Alpine saw him initially replace Esteban Ocon at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but he was later replaced by Franco Colapinto after the Miami Grand Prix in 2025. Despite Colapinto also failing to score points, Doohan ultimately parted ways with Alpine, leading him to explore other options within Formula 1.

Prior to finalizing his deal with Haas, Doohan considered a move to Super Formula, even participating in a test with Kondo Racing in Suzuka in mid-December. However, he ultimately decided to focus solely on pursuing opportunities within Formula 1, a decision that has now materialized with his signing with the American-based team.

The addition of Doohan alongside Hirakawa provides Haas with a robust reserve driver lineup, offering the team depth and flexibility as they prepare for the 2026 season. The team’s full-time drivers for 2026 are Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman. Doohan’s role will be crucial in providing support to the race team, participating in testing and simulations, and being ready to step in if required due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Haas team will begin official pre-season testing in Bahrain next week, providing Doohan with an early opportunity to integrate with the team and familiarize himself with the 2026 car. The 2026 season promises to be a competitive one, and Haas will be hoping that the addition of Doohan to their driver roster will contribute to their pursuit of success on the track.
