sony Pictures has just dropped the official trailer, revealing a thrilling blend of nostalgia and fresh faces. The film, hitting theaters May 30, reunites iconic stars ralph Macchio, reprising his role as Daniel LaRusso, and Jackie Chan, returning as the wise Mr. Han.
This time, they’re mentoring a new student, Li Fong, played by rising star Ben Wang. Wang, who impressed with his diverse martial arts skills, including karate, wing chun/kung fu, gumdo, kempo, and taekwondo, was chosen from thousands of hopefuls in a global search.
“I was the target audience when that movie came out. I was exactly the age of the character,” wang shared with Entertainment Weekly. “That whole movie takes place in Beijing, and I’d just come back from living for a year in Beijing. Also, I grew up watching Jackie Chan movies. He is the first memory I have of knowing what an actor is. It was all of my favorite things in one place.”
ming-Na Wen joins the cast as Li Fong’s mother, while Joshua Jackson and Sadie Stanley round out the ensemble.
Jonathan Entwistle, known for his work on Netflix’s “I Am Not okay With This” and “The End of the F—ing World,” directs the film.The screenplay is penned by Rob Lieber, the writer behind “Peter Rabbit.”
